Atilla Nagy at Space.Kinja.com has just posted a collection of some amazing NASA manual covers from Apollo and earlier missions. They feature some incredibly modern type. Head over to the post to see the full collection.
Book entitled Julius Klinkhardt, 1888, by Berlintypes. Via Pinterest.
Rob Loukotka watched every episode of the Coyote and Road Runner duking it out and then drew every gadget and explosive found in the episodes. That’s over 126, all on one nifty print.
Head over to Rob’s Kickstarter to get a print yourself for only $30.
p.s. Did you know that in one of the episodes, it’s revealed the ACME Corp. is owned by Road Runner Inc.?
Couldn’t resist posting this beautiful hot pressed poster by Kevin Cantrell. Inspired by vintage fire insurance lettering (perhaps some found right here on VintageMeOhMy?) the poster uses a quote from Genesis and hand-made lettering.
Check out all of the photos and more of Kevin Cantrell’s work here.
Mark Vanhoenacker over at Slate has a terrific article detailing the evolution of the airline baggage tag, with quips from sea and rail all the way up to modern day. Throughout the article he links to a variety of great image resources, including Slate’s own slideshow, a Flickr set on color-coded airline tags, and an aviation label collection.
Even aside from the great ephemera, the article is really interesting and talks about the design and engineering feats the modern day tags had to overcome–and how they overcome so well. Check it out.
Well, turns out starting a company and launching on a national scale is a little time consuming. New companies seem to care nothing about your sanity or stress threshold, so you run with it as best you can.I was swallowed alive by a soap company and my blog was put on the back burner for a bit.
Sorry about the wait! New posts on the way :)
P.S. You can always check out our Vintage Me Oh My Pinterest Board to get a fix.
Luke Lucas, you lucky duck! You’ve got yourself one fancy pack of vintage labels headed your way.
Thanks everyone for participating. I really loved hearing how you use vintage designs. I’ll start picking up more things at vintage fairs to have more giveaways. You all deserve to have some vintage lovelies around your workspace.
P.S. If the pack goes unclaimed, I’ll do a re-drawing.
I found this awesome German Advent calendar from a guest post Dave Cuzner from Grain Edit did for Design Sponge a few years ago (so it’s even more vintage now!). There’s no date listed, but I assume it’s from around the 1950s or 60s. You can see the full post here. When you open each day’s paper door, there’s a fun little illustration inside. According to Dave, they’re “influenced by German Folk Art and Polish Wycinanki style paper cutting.”
Look inside the post to see inside the advent calendar doors. It’s like a mini advent experience for you :)
I love the structure of tickets- the multiple font weights and lines, squeezing so much information onto a tiny little surface. It’s always interesting to see how people find countless different ways to organize the same information.
