Sanford’s Glue Ads and Packaging

So I recently discovered the blog Letterology, and I’m quickly falling in love. Check out his post on Sanford’s Glue for the rest of his images. The image from the catalog is from the 1800s, and the postcard is from 1904. He also has an ad from 1928, but you’ll have to go there to see it :)

Isn’t it cool to see the ephemera surrounding an item? It puts it in context and brings it to life. I feel like I’m shopping in the 1800s!

1930s Halloween Designs

Yet another set of Halloween goodies, this time from the 1930s. You can never go wrong with Liberty Magazine. And how creepy (yet strangely cool) is that cat decoration? Via Graves and Ghouls.

1950-60s Halloween Designs

Here’s a mix of designs from the 1950s-1960s that were released during Halloween. There’s so much stuff out there, it’s hard to pick just a handful. Keep checking back for Halloween pieces from other decades! Via Graves and Ghouls.

1920s Netherlands Posters

I discovered a great new resource- it’s an online museum of all sorts of design and memorabilia from the Netherlands. It’s easy to navigate and has nice large images. The racing poster is titled “Tilburgsche Wieler en Motorbaan T.W.E.M.” and was created in 1921-1922. The soccer poster is titled “Zondag a.s. voetbalwedstrijd tusschen D.F.C.” and was created in 1900-1925.

Funny Bones – Calendar Cards from 1897 & 1901

These were illustrated by Dr.Louis Crusius in the late 1800s and weren’t published until 1901. If you’re interested in the history of these and the illustrator, head to the original, full post by Letterology. He goes in depth on the facts and has a few more photos.

Vintage Magician’s Posters

Another Fab.com sale caught my eye- and how perfect is it for October? They’re selling digital prints of these great old magician’s posters. You can see the full set of offerings here. They’re all 18×24 and $28 each.

Modern Vintage Lettering

I’m such a sucker for the overly full, ornate vintage typography mixed with flourishes. This is a nice example of incorporating a modern photo. Being an ad for breakfast doesn’t hurt either. It is, after all, one of God’s gift to mankind. This piece was made by the master of hand-drawn lettering, Jon Contino. Found via Simplesong.
