French Card Game, Mille Bornes, 1950s

“Mille Bornes” (French for a thousand milestones, referring to the stone distance markers on many French roads) is a French card game. It was created in 1954 by Frenchman Edmond Dujardin. The premise of Mille Bornes is that the players are in a road race. Each race—or hand—is usually 700 miles (or kilometers) long. The object of the game is to reach 5,000 points, which normally takes several hands.”  - good ‘ole Wikipedia Via this blog here.

WOW! I actually had this game as a kid and I totally remember the artwork on the cards. Of course, we didn’t “get it” on how it was actually played. I recall us trying several times but I don’t think there were any English directions in the version we had so thus, until this moment, I had no idea what the game was really about. Oh if only we had the internet then. Maybe we’d have learned how to play.

Lol- I can picture a group of little kids sitting around just making up crazy rules for a foreign card game. Who knows, maybe that was more fun than the real thing.. I’m glad you finally found out :)

Got something to say? Go for it!
