This made me instantly happy inside. I loved David the Gnome, and this little guy is just like him. I unfortunately don’t know the date of this book, as the original source is rather elusive..otherwise this would be on its way to me right now. Via Etsy.

The book was published first in the 70s :) I believe its by Brian Froud, who also has a series of books documenting the lives of fairies, scary beasts, and strange smells. They’re all great fun, silly books, with amazing illustrations to boot! My stepmom handed down all her Froud books to me throughout my childhood, but I let her keep that one… gnomes freak me out a teensy bit.
I didn’t have this myself, but a friend did. It is a lovely book.

I grew up with this book and love it! I think David the gnome was actually based on it, and that’s why you see the similarity. The inside is fantastic; there are illustrations of gnome houses, etc.
