Comment to Win A Pack of Vintage Labels!

For the last day of Christmas, I’m giving away a pack of different vintage labels from my collection. I hand picked each of these, so there’s no filler junk in it- it’s all gorgeous! :)

Just answer the question and you’ll be entered to win the pack!

How do you use vintage graphics? (Do you draw inspiration from them? Use them in your artwork? Pull flourishes or type from them?)

I love using your vintage stock to pull the textures and flourishes for my designs. I use your website for inspiration in my design where I can. I love the vintage typography styles and color schemes in labels and packages

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

I use vintage graphics (some of the best are found right here on vintageohmy.com!) for inspiration and period stylistic reference. Typefaces, graphics, flourishes; all working together to produce a beautiful timeless design. I also love to find and read about how these designs were produced at that time. Amazing work with limited resources!

    Good luck everyone!

  4. Kamol says:

All of the above, but most often for inspiration and color references.

I love using vintage labels when I’m making props for our community theater. It’s such a simple way to subtly impact the scenery with a very specific time frame. Audiences pick up on the period without even realizing why.

  9. Treb says:

I like to use the elements as narrative detail. They contribute towards giving a larger artwork a place and setting. As they say “a picture is worth a thousand words”

I love to use vintage ideas to incorperate into modern design. Its so much fun reinventing updated and current design with type and designs from the past! Brings back nostalgia and gives it that beautiful vintage style.

  11. Aaron says:

I am particularly fond of the ornate…onraments, and ornate typography. I also love the desaturated colors of some of them, or even the nature of aging over time.

Ephemera in general is just awesome, and it’s even more awesome you’re doing this give away! Thanks!

Vintage graphic is my memo for typo, illustration and press techinique. It is a real treasure for the five senses: eyes appeal, the smell of time, the sound of paper and the taste of dust.

  13. Bastian says:

I love vintage labels and will use them for a website i’m working on.

  14. MikeS says:

It might sound lame, but I sometimes just like to stare at them. Simple.

  15. Luke says:

This looks like a great collection. So much can be learned from the past master’s of the craft. Vintage graphic design is a fantastic reminder of how much we modern day designers still have to learn and is a great source of inspiration.

I will usually be inspired by them, or take certain elements from them and add them to a more modern design, usually to create a contrast.

  20. Hannah says:

I use them as inspiration; mostly in color, color combinations, composition, and type mixing. Also just as a feel, and an inspiration to make something that’s as cool and beautiful as these things! :)

  21. Dottie says:

I have always been inspired by the typography and color pallets of vintage ads. So much so that the influence is constantly sneaking into my modern work. :] Thanks for the chance to win!

  22. Fred says:

The graphics you upload are incredibly diverse but all have something in common… they are inpsirational. I love the typography and colours and the incredible amount of thought that went into creating the designs. By seeing these glimpses of past ideas I hope to create something with just a litle of that flavour.

  23. Frances says:

I love to absorb(looking, touching them, smelling them?) every detail of them and use it as inspiration for design. And I’m doing my thesis on Victorian graphic design, so it will help me if I win!

I use them as references for making graphic props for period films and TV shows

Thank you for posting quality images! I love your site!
I scan/trace/copy florishes, typography, and study them as inspiration for brand identity, wine labels and website designs, or just let myself be absorbed in the wonderful history and line work.

  28. Mercy Lomelin says:

This is amazing! I’ve been admiring the beauty of typography and color for some time now. I collect whatever I can from estate sales and study them so that they may organically inspire my work as a graphic designer. I never directly copy a color palette but I have used them to influence my work because of their unique combinations. Absolutely stunning!

  29. This looks like a great collection and would be a great addition to our own. We use ephemera for inspiration and then re-interpret elements in our own designs. Sometimes it’s a colour scheme, sometimes typography or illustrative style or even printing techniques that we pick up on.

Using design from the past as a reference point is relevant to almost everything we do – even if that isn’t always obvious in the finished result.

  30. kyle says:

I use vintage graphics for inspiration for illustrations and designs, they also just look great to put up on the wall.
Who wouldn’t want to win such an awesome prize? Thank you!

  31. High Altitudes says:

When I use vintage graphics, it’s to compliment and honor a design with time tested sophistication. Modern graphics are fine but when you want to invoke some sentiment, go vintage!

  32. Gary Godby says:

I use them for inspiration in both color and typestyles, being that I am an old school signpainter and designer. I try to keep that period look and keep authentic as possible.

    Born 100 years to late.
