Tobacco Ad for Kids, Late 1800s
Talk about getting them while they’re young. W.T. Blackwell created a comic book for kids that showed all sorts of fun being had while smoking their Durham Tobacco. They even covered the pages with decorative clouds of smoke and illustrated classic children’s rhymes with the main characters smoking! Little Jack Horner is over in his corner…smoking. Little Boy Blue? He blew his horn, then sat down for a smoke. I’d like to see a tobacco company try that today- ha!
